BOOTS
They have to fit "your" feet and work for you - not your friends.
The following are general comments that apply to all skiers.
There are no "best" boot companies.
WHEN BUYING YOU WANT A VERY SNUG FIT.
All boots will get "roomier" as the inner boot packs out (the material will compress). Most good skiers will buy about one size down from their measured length. Generally the right length is when the toes are slightly touching or very close to the front when standing. Flexing the knees similar to a skiing position will draw the toes back. Custom insoles will raise the arch and also draw the toes back so consider this when buying. Remember that you are buying SKI boots, not walking boots. In most boots the shells are the same for a full and 1/2 size. A 27 and 27.5 are the same length, however this is not true for Atomic boots. The inner boot on a size 27 has a bit more material (about 1/4" ) which takes up a bit more room then a 27.5 making the boot fit smaller. A 27.5 for instance can easily be made into a 27.0 by simply taking out the inner liner and adding a very small piece of material across the outside toe area of the inner boot. Ski shops do this all the time.
THIS IS A CONVERSION CHART - MOST SKI BOOTS ARE SIZED ON A MONDO SCALE.
FOR A WOMENS SIZE, GO UP ONE FULL SIZE ON THE MONDO SIZING. A WOMENS SIZE 7 WILL BE A MONDO SIZE 24, INSTEAD OF A 25 AS SHOWN ON THE CHART.
